Why is arts education separated from the main core subject areas?

Given that society requires invention in every area of life, why does the education of 'methods of invention' eg: creativity and design, become tagged as a specialist pathway.

Why does society see an art class as a bludge?

    I agree that arts education should be a major curriculum item. Considering it involves mathematics, geometry, design, history, theology, philosophy, languages, geography, anatomy, botany, zoology, amongst others, and potentially media studies, specialist art studies and business practice, it seems ludicrous to consider this a minor and secondary study.
